Many, many toys for toddlers are ablaze with buttons, levers, lights, music, etc. Often these toys are marketed as “developmental” because the toy has so many different functions. Unfortunately, this often has the opposite effect for the child. The more a toy does, the less your child has to do. If your child can sit and watch the toy “perform,” then it is likely more entertaining than educational. In addition, these toys can be confusing to a child who is learning cause-and-effect. If a toy randomly starts playing music, or it is unclear which button made the lights start flashing, then your child is not learning which of his actions (the cause) produced the lights and music (the effect). In short, the most useful toys are those that require the most action on the part of a young child. The more children have to use their minds and bodies to make something work, the more they learn.

A: Both solid and gel-filled toys provide their own lists of benefits, so choosing between the two is easier than you think. Consider your baby’s developmental level. To determine which is best for your little one, consider at which stage of teething they are currently experiencing. For example, your baby, aged 3 months, may experience increased tenderness as their teeth are brand new and still breaking through the gum’s surface. A solid teething toy may apply too much pressure to your baby’s delicate gums. Additionally, consider how experienced your baby is with chewing or gumming as new objects in the mouth can be a little off-putting or frightening, a softer or gel-filled toy will be less abrasive. If your baby is a little older and has already been exposed to some solids, then a firmer toy is likely to be more effective.

Why we love it: It's small enough to tuck into your changing bag but the Whoozit's BIG on baby entertainment – with loads of differently patterned and textured fabrics to see, touch and feel, and a little mirror hidden behind his nose. Our tester Marley's mum loved the dangling legs and the little Velcro strap that lets you attach the toy to your baby's car seat or pushchair.
The design makes it very attractive to the child because it is in the shape of objects that he or she already associates with things that bring pleasure or relief--baby bottles and fruits!  This naturalistic effect cements positive correlation and a causal relationship with the product.  It is made with 100 percent medical-grade silicone and comes in varying textures, so the child can find just the right pressure for relief.

Do not blame yourself if your toddler does develop a delay or disability. It doesn’t make the toddler any less intelligent nor does it mean they are destined for a life of mediocrity. However, while you shouldn’t stress out over it, neglecting or refusing to accept that your toddler does have a delay or disability could hinder them in the years to come. Just like it’s best to start the nurturing of developmental milestones early, it’s best to start the nurturing of delay and disability healing early as well.
Babies at 10-months-old are generally pulling themselves up to a standing position at the coffee table or couch. There are many options for sturdy walking toys that include shopping carts and strollers. Many walking toys in this age range have great long-term use, transforming into ride-on toys. They are a good investment, often being passed on to another younger brother or sister.

Besides, parents also give their children toys and products earlier than the recommendation states. Even if the baby doesn’t get the toy’s purpose yet, he/she can already have super fun and start learn with it. Of course under the supervision of parents! 🙂 Besides, age recommendations are only approximate, because each baby develops at different pace and different things are attractive at each developmental stage.

We encourage parents to do their own extensive research since many teething toys out there do still contain some trace levels of BPA. Even some of the cooling gels and agents used on some products to aid in relief may leak after extensive use or improper treatment. It can be a lengthy process, but your child’s health is always worth it. Also, as part of our evaluation and suggestion to parents, don’t look for a quick and easy–or cheap–fixes! The more you do this, the more likely you are to get a product with toxins, or a product that peels and is a choking hazard. Even something like food- and medical-grade silicone can be deceptive.
Last year, I shared several of our favorite toys for babies along with toys for boys ages 5-7.  Since Little Sister (21 months) is now officially considered a toddler. I thought I would share some of our favorite toys for toddlers!  Many of these we currently have, a few we will be purchasing this year, and some we have enjoyed at other locations such as friends’ houses or church!
With Ashtonbee’s five-pack of baby teething toys, you can always be prepared for the next time your child becomes fussy because of their painful gums. Each of the five teethers are free of BPA, PVC, lead, BPS, and phthalates, thus your child will not come into contact with any harmful chemicals while they are chewing. Your little one can easily grasp each teether as they are designed with a handle. Furthermore, your child will increase their fine-motor skills as they grasp the handles. The variety of curves and textures will stimulate your child’s teeth to grow as well as massage their gums. The bright colors of each teether will stimulate your child’s sensory development. The silicone material makes them easy to clean if accidentally dropped. Receiving five at one time will allow you to keep one in your car, house, bag, and anywhere else you might need to keep one.

Everyone seems to be obsessed with going to Escape the Room parties.  Well now you can bring the party home with Escape the Room in a Box: Werewolf Experiment.  You’ll have one hour to crack some codes, solve some puzzles, and find some hidden clues.  Plus, even better, you can connect this game to your Alexa (if you have it) to keep track of time, ask questions, and even play a special soundtrack that just adds to the intensity of the game.  And your one hour begins….now!
Examples: Dress-up clothing, blocks, toy food and plastic plates, action figures, stuffed animals and dolls, trains and trucks, toddler-friendly dollhouses, toy tools, and “real-life” accessories such as a wrapping paper tube “fire hose” for your little fire fighter. The all-purpose large cardboard box is always a big hit for toddlers and is free. (Call an appliance store about picking up one of their refrigerator boxes). Boxes become houses, pirate ships, barns, tunnels—anything your child’s imagination can come up with!
You know how I love the idea of this kind of gift. Instead of getting a gift for your newborn who is happy to stare at jingling keys, why not get them something that will save kids in other countries? Some people may not like the “no gift to open” factor on this one, but some may love the gesture this brings. (For more gifts along this line, check out my Baby Gifts That Give Back post.)

5. Relevance to real life :  Babies are learning about the world around them. They're trying to associate words with the pictures in books and the toys in their world. The objects that they play with and interact with on a daily basis can contribute to that understanding of the world. I advocate for at least some of a baby's toys to be related to or resemble real life objects. Look for baby books with real photos or realistic drawings of animals and toy animals that actually look like animals (as opposed to the singing octopus pirate previously mentioned). Let your baby play with cups and wooden spoons, wooden blocks, mirrors, scarves, etc.
Preschoolers and toddlers will love My 1st Wagon from Radio Flyer. While it’s not designed for sitting on, it’s designed to be safe for kids with no sharp edges and is perfect for transporting toys and more. You can even use it as a gift basket wagon for kids. What’s cool? The handle and steering actually are functional so you can take it on fun adventures to the park, around the house, or in the backyard.
Grumblies are the anti-virtual interactive pet. They’re geared towards boys and have fart and burp noises. You have to aggravate them enough to get them into meltdown mode. So you shake and toss them around. It’s something brothers would do to their sister’s virtual pets. At a certain point, he totally melts down and farts! There are four different ones, each with its own personality and each represents a different element.
Meet Boxer, a new interactive artificially intelligent robot companion from Spin Master. Boxer is full of personality and his moods change over time. You can stick your hand in front of him or use his ball and he will chase it around. He can play soccer or even a slingshot game. He even comes with an interactive ball, 10 game feature cards, and a remote control.
