Boys are now really familiar with all the colorful pictures and words from one side, I think we will switch to the Farm side soon. This mat was also very helpful for crawling and learning how to walk – it’s definitely better than a hard floor, so all the falls didn’t hurt so much 🙂 I love this mat – it engages baby in many ways, it helps in baby’s development and makes learning so much fun.
Want a fun new way to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? The upcoming Labo Vehicle Kit will allow kids to build their own Toy-Con Car steering wheel and control their kart of choice in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The included pedal can be used for drifting and revving up your engine at the beginning of races to get a boost start. Honking the horn will allow players to throw an item. If that wasn’t enough fun, you can also build a Toy-Con submarine and plane.
If they’re not into ride-on unicorns, this is the ride-on animal for them! Meet Scout the Pony! He makes over 100 unique sounds and motions and is totally interactive (and so cute). You can feed it, walk it, ride it, and watch it perform a very special dance. Plus, Scout’s ears, eyes, and head moves. You can even hear Scout make cute little munching sounds when you feed him. We just assumed it was a ‘he’ but could totally be a ‘she.’ You decide! This one is hard to come by and is already the ‘must have’ for this upcoming holiday. If you’re having a hard time finding it, be sure to check out Amazon too.
Designed to be used from birth to early toddlerhood, the Newborn-to-Toddler Play Gym comes with no less than 10 toys and playtime activities on a padded and machine-washable mat. The mat itself can be converted into a put-and-take ball playset especially when the colorful arch is utilized. The play gym also has dancing lights and several toys that rattle while dangling on the arch.

"It's a myth that babies can't play, even if they don't seem to be 'doing much' yet—they’re still taking everything in,” says Amanda Gummer, a research psychologist specializing in child development and spokesperson for the Genius of Play, a movement to raise awareness about the importance of play in kids’ lives. “Playing is a great way for parents and caregivers to build that vital bond with their baby, while sensory stimulations helps baby's brain grow.”
It’s all about the interactive toys this year. Introducing ‘Lil Gleemerz!’ There are currently three different ones to choose from and they have over 100 different reactions and interactions like purring, growling, farting (of course), light shows, light up tail, and so much more. Oh, and did we mention they can say funny things, their eyes glow, and you can simply press their nose to enjoy them three different ways (game mode, light party, or hangout). They’ve already been named one of the top toys of the year, so get ’em while you can! See all the different color options here!

She’ll even provide you with some of her very own sweet baby babble too when you talk to her. We personally think this one is the cutest, but you can also get her with blonde sculpted hair or brown sculpted hair too!

Considering these toys are for babies that will get everything dirty with food, spit-up, and what-not, their toys must be easy to clean. Machine washing for the toys with fabrics is a must because otherwise with just spot cleaning, stains will never go away. Most of the toys listed can be cleaned by machine washing or by simply wiping the hard surface off with baby-safe cleansers.
Developmental disabilities are usually permanent and are rarely outgrown or able to catch up in. While developmental disabilities are not the same as a learning disability, it can greatly impact the ability to learn. These disabilities usually require constant monitoring, teaching and caring of the toddler by parents, guardians, caregivers and teachers. Some disabilities require specialized classes or schools. Conditions such as Down syndrome, Autism, and complications from brain injuries can cause developmental disabilities.
At a loss for what to buy or overwhelmed with too many choices? Consider buying a subscription to a toy rental service, like Sparkbox Toys that will deliver educational toys to your home, based on your child's age level and interests. Love the toy, pay a portion of the retail price and keep it. Or return all the toys in the box with pre-paid postage and receive a new box of toys the following month.
A: Babies drool, this is unavoidable. If you find with these toys, your baby is drooling more excessively than before, it’s because the extra stimulation causes more salivation. Keeping a burp rag or extra cloth on hand will help you with the clean-up. Consider also switching toys out regularly as this can help minimize drooling. Differing textures will provide stimulation to different areas of the mouth and gums, helping to break the amount of occurring salivation.
Another example of what Dr. Cornett calls “real life” toys, this food encourages kids to go shopping and to cook. We’re big fans of the Learning Resources Farmer’s Market Color Sorting Set which, unlike many of the other options, is not just french fries (high in sodium and easily lost) and cheeseburgers. In addition, it can do double duty as a color sorting tool.
Looking for a fun arts and crafts project for kids? The Cool Maker Tidy Dye Station lets kids create their own tie-dye creations with this fun kit. Wet and roll fabric, then wrap it with the color pod string to create awesome patterns. The best part? Since the color is in the string, it stays off your child’s hands. Two projects are included to get you started, then you can make your own for endless creative fun!
Star Wars teamed up with FurReal to bring everybody’s favorite Wookie to life. Chewie has been brought to life with his famous expressions and signature roar. When you talk to him, he will respond to your voice. With a built-in accelerometer, he responds to movement too when you pick him up. You probably didn’t know this, but he is incredibly ticklish. The cutest part? After fighting the Empire all day, he even can be put to sleep.
Baby can shake, roll, squeeze, and chew this delightful Bendy Ball. With plastic so flexible, even a baby can bend it and explore the wonders that the Einstein Bendy Ball contains. The caterpillar in the middle of the ball has multiple colors to teach baby sights and the sounds of the rattle just add to the charm of this toy. Small enough for tiny hands to manipulate and squeeze, the Bendy Ball will certainly be a first favorite for your child.
Who wouldn’t want to train to be a superhero? In this preschool game, players take turns flipping over 3 cards. It’s a game that encourages physical activity in a fun way. All of the cards have different superhero actions printed on them. Kids have to pick one of the actions to perform, but watch out for the Green Goblin. The best part? The game comes with props to bring all of your favorite Marvel superheroes to life. Kids will use Spider Man’s web, Captain America’s Shield, Thor’s hammer, and more.

There are two kinds of developmental issues: Developmental Delay and Developmental Disability. While the terms are used interchangeably, there is a difference between the two but that difference can be hard to decipher within a child. Developmental delay can be caused from short term issues such as an ear infection causing sensory delay or a long term hospitalization causing a delay in motor skills. If the delay is spotted and intervened early, a toddler can quickly catch up in their developments.
