You can look at your baby’s teething as the process by which his or her very first deciduous teeth break through his or her gums. This usually occurs by the time your baby reaches 6 months old, although it is not uncommon to see babies as young as 3 months and as old as 1 year to have their very first primary, deciduous, baby, or milk tooth. What can be expected is that by 3 years of age, your baby would have already erupted 20 milk or baby teeth. During the first eruption, your baby’s first tooth will most likely appear on the lower front of his or her gums. One to two months later, you can expect the upper front teeth.
Examples: Dress-up clothing, blocks, toy food and plastic plates, action figures, stuffed animals and dolls, trains and trucks, toddler-friendly dollhouses, toy tools, and “real-life” accessories such as a wrapping paper tube “fire hose” for your little fire fighter. The all-purpose large cardboard box is always a big hit for toddlers and is free. (Call an appliance store about picking up one of their refrigerator boxes). Boxes become houses, pirate ships, barns, tunnels—anything your child’s imagination can come up with!
Every week I take my kid to a play therapist. My son is great and, because he’s six and also my son, has a hard time expressing his emotions through words. His play therapist is great too but out-of-network and so crazy expensive. Regardless, it’s totally worth it. Play therapy allows my son a way to express himself non-verbally and provides a professional to, to some extent, decode his play. (Like most therapists, she meets separately with us.) But you don’t need to be in a play therapist to offer your kid the ability to work through their shit — or simply express themselves in a more natural way — with toys. You just need the right toys.

A: Quite a few of these teethers do work wonders for older kids with oral motor problems. They’ve even been known to calm down children with the developmental disorder when they act out at home or in public. Of course, you should always get your doctor or therapist’s approval beforehand. Kids with autism, for example, may need a really thick, meaty chew to calm them down when they’re at peak frustration levels. In such cases, it’s nice to have different chewing levels to fit your child’s needs.
Snap Circuits Bric: Structures is a culmination of what kids have been asking for for a long time. It takes ordinary bricks and you can mount your Snap Circuits onto them. The Bric-2-Snap adapters enable you to connect your Snap Circuits to the bricks so you can light up any structure you build. You can make your structure light up with a circuit or you can build something that moves like a racecar with ordinary bricks and a Snap Circuits photo transistor and watch it go by adding a light source. The set comes with 140 regular building bricks, 20 Snap Circuit pieces, and 75 Bric to Snap adapters.
