This includes a sturdy wood block puzzle, but if we had to pin down a theme for this set it would definitely be “banging.” Between the xylophone and the pound-a-ball, the child has plenty of appropriate ways to fine-tune that “bam-bam” skill. The xylophone is always a great toy for a kid because of this, and the pound-a-ball actually allows the child to see the physical change to the toy by dropping the ball into the pit below.
That’s right folks, the people that brought you Hatchimals present, LuvaBella, an interactive baby doll that laughs when you tickle her, learns how to say certain words when you feed and play with her and, well, just about has the most life-like reactions and features we’ve ever seen on a doll.  Some say creepy, we say “futuristic.”   These were all the rage last year, but are much easier to get this year.
Toys that begin to awaken baby’s visual, auditory, and tactile senses will stimulate the development of neural pathways in a baby’s rapidly expanding brain. Consider adding them to your own baby registry, purchasing one for your newborn or gifting one to someone expecting or a set of new parents.

Especially suitable for kids who are experiencing or otherwise coming into contact with the healthcare system, doctor’s kits are also just plain fun. They encourage a range of imaginative play that can help a child enact the role of caregiver. The Battat B. Deluxe Doctor’s Kit for Toddlers, which we dig, includes a sturdy carrier kit and is almost scarily thorough. With nine pieces such as a stethoscope with heartbeat sound, an otoscope, a blood pressure cuff with gauge, a safe syringe, (kid) scissors, a thermometer, and a beeper. A beeper!

Created by comedian Jeff Foxworthy, Relative Insanity is like Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity, but you can play it in front of the family. It’s a game that you’ll love playing because you’re sure to get lots of laughs. There are punch line cards and setup cards. Someone reads the setup, for example: “When my cousin walked in with my new baby, my grandma blurted out _______.” Then players look at their punch lines and submit the one that’s going to get the biggest laugh. The setup person picks the best answer and that player scores points.

These are fantastic. I got one for both of my sons and it really is something how they actually record your kid’s name into the song and it’s not all shit like with “If you’re ‘insert robotic name here’ and you know it”. It really does sound seamless. I think it’s especially great for kids that have unique names and aren’t going to find the preprinted mugs with their names on it anytime soon.
This book will engage your baby by the different 3D pictures and sew-ons with which he can play. A lot of people will refer to this cloth book as a “Quiet Book,” and while it doesn’t have the music and lights that some other books have, it will make some noises (like crinkling), so beware. It’s fine for a church cry room, but you wouldn’t want to sit front row at a funeral with it.

The first phase of block play is what MacDonald terms "tote and carry." Your 2-year-old is doing little or no building, but she can pile, haul, and drop -- and in the process learn about weight, stability, and balance. Of course a toddler's favorite lesson will probably be the noisiest and messiest: gravity. To the outrage of many an older sibling, toddlers learn quickly that what goes up must come down -- and that knocking down blocks brings an exciting reward. "Children like order and structure, but at a young age they love to create chaos even more," says MacDonald. "Just by stacking one block on top of another, they learn that unstable things fall down, while stable things don't."
Start your engines, collect your coins, and prepare for fun! The game board looks like Monopoly but is inspired by worlds straight out of the Mario Kart videogames. Toddlers love to take apart, put back together, pull out, put in, add on, and build up. Choose toys that are “open-ended” in the sense that your child can play many different games with them. For example, wooden blocks or chunky plastic interlocking blocks can be used to make a road, a zoo, a bridge, or a spaceship. Toys like this spark your child’s imagination and help him develop problem-solving and logical thinking skills.

Water play adds another splash of science. As John Cerio, PhD, a professor of school psychology at Alfred University, in Alfred, New York, points out, kids are capable of learning a difficult concept on a very basic level. If you pour water from one container into a different-shaped container, you still have the same amount of water. Without hands-on play, most kids would tell you that the taller container must hold more.
This wonderful play mat has a lot to offer the newborn baby in your life. The multi-textured toys that hang for baby to reach help with teething and feeling different objects. The musical element of the gym is special because not only does it detach for versatility, but it has two play modes. Baby can kick to play one note or music for several minutes. As for tummy time, his own little face will have him looking up and strengthening his neck muscles for much longer than he would without this motivator.

This classic board book — it was published in 1982 — has lift-the-flap options on every page, but it shows easy-to-digest animal images that kids can recognize. “One of the things we know about 1-year-olds is that they really thrive on interacting with adults, so books that encourage that interaction and allow parents to give in to that moment beyond just reading the page are the best,” says Lytle. “Books that involve sounds the parent can make and children can imitate, or a book that has windows you can open and talk about or anything else to that effect are best.”
This is a type of evolution from the glow worms you may have had as a child. The light provides a focal point for baby in the dark which may soothe them to sleep or just distract them from the anger of being put to bed. And the music will have a similar effect, making sure baby focuses on a calming toy rather than whatever could be making him cranky or distracted.
