A: This choice is entirely up to you as a parent or guardian; teething gels don’t alter or affect a toy’s effectiveness. If you are already open to using teething gels, then you can apply a small amount to the surface of the toy or even directly to the gums. However, if you are concerned about your baby’s exposure to harsh or toxic chemicals, you may want to avoid teething gels altogether as some do contain ingredients, which while proven to relieve pain and swelling, can also cause damaging effects to the liver and kidneys.
This Melissa & Doug diner set is the ultimate gift to unwrap Christmas morning. Little boys and girls will get a kick out of knowing they have a diner of their very own. Love laser tag? Then you’ll love the Nerf Laser Ops Pro. This blaster boots up quickly and it’s very easy to use right out of the box. Although the app is not required, it does enhance your gameplay by allowing players to level-up the blaster to make it stronger, better defense, check the scoreboard and more. Using the laser guns without the app is great for light-hearted fun. But if you’re competitive and want to kick someone’s tail, you’ll want to get into the app.

“At 1, kids are probably starting to pull themselves up on furniture and maybe even take a couple of steps,” explains Lytle. “When they’re up and walking, they’re most interested in toys that might support them but can also be part of their playtime.” Try this classic toy that an early (or soon-to-be) walker can operate on their own, while toting around their most prized belongings-slash-some-Cheerios.

These four soft block have different colorful pictures and patterns and introduce baby with letter, numbers and animals.  Each block has crinkles, satin tags and knotties. They all make sounds: rattle or jingles. Baby can explore, stack, built up or knock down. This toy stimulate baby’s senses and makes the playtime a blast! It is suitable from 3 months.
A: Babies drool, this is unavoidable. If you find with these toys, your baby is drooling more excessively than before, it’s because the extra stimulation causes more salivation. Keeping a burp rag or extra cloth on hand will help you with the clean-up. Consider also switching toys out regularly as this can help minimize drooling. Differing textures will provide stimulation to different areas of the mouth and gums, helping to break the amount of occurring salivation.

By now you've probably had it drilled into your head that whole or real foods - usually from the perimeter of the grocery store - are healthier for your family than processed, refined foods from a box. But grocery shopping can be confusing because many of those processed food boxes (filled with easy, convenient food for busy families) claim to be "natural", "organic", "whole grain" and more.
Toddlers love the Easy Score Basketball set. It’s one of the best-selling basketball sets. The set features a basketball hoop with three junior-sized balls. The best part? It’s a super fun game building eye-hand coordination as well as social and motor development skills. It’s slam dunk fun!

Realistically, babies are happy playing with household items like wooden spoons and plastic food containers, so you shouldn’t feel overwhelmed to break the bank on toys. The best toys for babies have colorful contrast for developing eyes and and engaging textures for little hands. And because babies do tend to explore the world by placing new items in their mouths, all toys should be safe to chew on. We suggest registering for at least a few fun and bright toys that will come in handy to distract a fussy baby or make tummy time more enjoyable. Whether you are looking for simple hand held toys for play time or soothing amusement for bedtime, we have a variety of great picks for you to choose from.
Big changes start to happen in baby's second month of life—especially when it comes to arm and hand movements. “Babies have a reflex that encourages them to look at their own outstretched hand as they wave and jerk it around like a tiny orchestra conductor," Coley says. As you continue practicing tummy time, baby will begin to hold his head up for very brief periods of bobbing and turning.

Through 25 pretend apps and activities and over 20 songs and melodies, this toy introduces little kids to numbers, shapes, colors, and more. It features a touch-sensitive light-up screen and kids can even swipe on-screen. Touch an activity icon to choose an activity to play or hear phrases, music, and sound effects, depending on the mode. There are 3 modes of play: Explore, Learn and Music. The 5 dock icons introduce kids to more phrases and sounds about greetings, time concepts, pretend play, and music. This is a cute toy that helps little ones feel big with a tablet all their own. They’ll love swiping on the screen and tapping the icons just like Mom and Dad. The lights and fun sounds make the learning play fun and engaging.

The Think & Learn Code-a-Pillar is not only an adorable character that comes to life with lights, sounds, and actions, but he also helps little learners be big thinkers by enhancing their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. It comes with 8 individual segments as well as a motorized head. At an early stage, kids can explore and discover different possibilities of putting these different segments together. This creates a code or sequence to take him on his journey. Each segment represents motion or a reaction. Now as your child gets more advanced with their coding, they can challenge themselves with the two target discs. So you would have to generate the code to go from start to finish. And if that wasn’t fun enough, a companion app adds more fun games, more learning content, and it brings the Code-A-Pillar to life with new animation.
The Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes Musical Toy is great because it provides baby with seven classical music tunes (including Mozart, Vivaldi, Chopin, and Rossini) at the touch of a button, but there’s more to love about this toy than just the tunes. In escape rooms, players work together to solve puzzle to escape before time runs out. Now the fun of an escape room is making its way to board games. If you like narrative-driven games, Thinkfun has some great board games that vary in difficultly. For kids, there is Stargazer’s Manor, which contains easy puzzles that kids can solve on their own. If you are looking to join in on the fun, check out Dr. Gravely’s Retreat. The game contains a series of puzzles to solve in sealed envelopes.
The LEGO City Mountain Police Headquarters is the main core set for this series for 2018. It’s a police station built atop a mountain. There’s even a large garage paved under the police station. There’s also the main police station and holding cell. There’s a functional turret that helps with imaginative play. A really cool feature is that the jail bars can be broken off so the prisoner can escape. The police station has a nice lookout area. There’s a good amount of detail inside the police station and a cave beneath the holding cell featuring fun action for the cougar. The set comes with 7 minifigures, a police vehicle, motorbike, and two helicopters.

When baby is ready to graduate to trying to pedal, the safety tray and canopy can be removed. For kids ready to trike all on their own, parents can remove the push handle and head support so the 4-in-1 Radio Flyer Stroll ‘n Trike becomes a classic tricycle for toddlers on the go. The seat is adjustable for little legs and this trike comes with a handy storage bin located at the back for kids to take their favorite things along for the ride. In the business of making iconic toys for more than 100 years, Radio Flyer has an impeccable reputation for durable, reliable, and memorable toys that withstand the test of time.

When your baby hits the 3-month mark, you'll start to notice a spike in curiosity. Whereas your newborn was content resting in your arms or hanging on a boppy, your infant now wants to play with toys. The best infant toys, however, are more than just loads of fun — they help your baby learn and grow (and the more colorful, interactive, and developmentally appropriate they are, the better.)

Last year, I shared several of our favorite toys for babies along with toys for boys ages 5-7.  Since Little Sister (21 months) is now officially considered a toddler. I thought I would share some of our favorite toys for toddlers!  Many of these we currently have, a few we will be purchasing this year, and some we have enjoyed at other locations such as friends’ houses or church!

Parents report that all of this variety keeps their baby entertained during car trips, playtime, walks in the stroller, and more. Freddie the Firefly clips onto car seats or stroller bars, making it less likely that the toy will end up out of reach on the floor or ground. The thin body may be easier for small hands to grasp, making it a good choice during the time when motor skills and muscles are still developing. Freddie the Firefly is ready to go wherever your baby does — and it promises to stay close with the help of the built-in clip!

The Farm To Table Kitchen set allows kids to pick carrots from their farm and chop and prepare them in the kitchen. The kitchen comes complete with a stove with working knobs and sound effects to make for an immersive play experience. There’s also an oven, refrigerator, sink, storage and more for endless imaginative fun. You can even hang your pots and pans for extra storage.

Considering these toys are for babies that will get everything dirty with food, spit-up, and what-not, their toys must be easy to clean. Machine washing for the toys with fabrics is a must because otherwise with just spot cleaning, stains will never go away. Most of the toys listed can be cleaned by machine washing or by simply wiping the hard surface off with baby-safe cleansers.
The Safari Learning Station is designed to grow with your child. Young kids can sit, play and learn first words, numbers, shapes, colors, animals, Spanish, music and more. When your child grows the arch can be raised so kids can crawl under or stand and play with the animals. There’s also fun drop-through ball play with the monkey’s tail and a light-up piano to keep kids engaged.
Baby can mouth the cups, bang the cups on the floor or table, bang two cups together, put them on her head, cover her eyes with cups to play peek-a-boo, nest them together, stack them, roll them, pretend to drink from them, hide toys under them, put toys in them, shout into them and more. With the drum, baby bangs the drum and it says a letter. Baby bangs with two hands and it says a letter. Baby pushes his face into the top of the drum in an attempt to bite it - it says a letter. Baby bangs hard - it says a letter. Baby bangs soft - it says a letter. Baby bangs it with a toy hammer - it says a letter. I think you get the point that this toy isn't very responsive to baby's discovery and exploration. Baby can't put anything in it or under it, stack it on top of anything else, roll it, or take it apart. This toy is made for one thing only - banging - and it is effectively a giant button.
Developmental disabilities are usually permanent and are rarely outgrown or able to catch up in. While developmental disabilities are not the same as a learning disability, it can greatly impact the ability to learn. These disabilities usually require constant monitoring, teaching and caring of the toddler by parents, guardians, caregivers and teachers. Some disabilities require specialized classes or schools. Conditions such as Down syndrome, Autism, and complications from brain injuries can cause developmental disabilities.

Toys that give kids a chance to figure something out on their own—or with a little coaching—build their logical thinking skills and help them become persistent problem-solvers. We all have had the experience of buying a toy that our child plays with for two days and never touches again. You can guard against that by looking for toys that can be fun at different developmental stages. For example, small plastic animals are fun for a young toddler who may make a shoebox house for them, while an older toddler can use them to act out a story she makes up.
In the first year of a baby's life, the brain doubles in size, according to a 2007 study. The hippocampus, a seahorse-shaped structure deep in the brain that is used in memory processing, reaches its adult size by 10 months of age. These anatomical changes go hand-in-hand with rapid development:  Motor skills, language, and even social understanding all advance by leaps and bounds.

There’s a reason why the Little Tikes Shopping Cart has been a favorite toddler toy for generations. This is one toy that boys and girls will use for hours, engaging in imaginative role play as they fill the cart just like mom and dad do at the store. The Little Tikes Cart stands at two feet tall and is made from durable, BPA-, latex-, PVC- and phthalate-free plastic. The easy-push wheels are designed to protect indoor surfaces, yet they’re durable enough for outdoor use. Little shoppers can load up the basket with all the items on their shopping list and there’s even a fold down seat (just like in a real shopping cart) so they can tote along their favorite doll or stuffed animal.

Examples: Dress-up clothing, blocks, toy food and plastic plates, action figures, stuffed animals and dolls, trains and trucks, toddler-friendly dollhouses, toy tools, and “real-life” accessories such as a wrapping paper tube “fire hose” for your little fire fighter. Boxes become houses, pirate ships, barns, tunnels—anything your child’s imagination can come up with!

Some research suggests simply some TLC as a form of relief to trade off extensive use of teethers. Simply holding your child, speaking to them, rocking them when fussy, or the gentle pressure of your finger in their mouth and on their gums can be more than enough in conjunction with the teething toys. By far it will make this first transition much simpler and smoother.
“Shape sorters are my No. 1 favorite 2-year-old toy,” Dr. Golinkoff says. “They love them because they’re just starting to pay attention to things like shapes and colors, and they can hold things, and they love shoving things through holes. They can put things in, take things out. It’s just got it all.” This one, in pleasantly muted and pastel colors, also has a sound for each corresponding shape.

Many, many toys for toddlers are ablaze with buttons, levers, lights, music, etc. Often these toys are marketed as “developmental” because the toy has so many different functions. Unfortunately, this often has the opposite effect for the child. The more a toy does, the less your child has to do. If your child can sit and watch the toy “perform,” then it is likely more entertaining than educational. In addition, these toys can be confusing to a child who is learning cause-and-effect. If a toy randomly starts playing music, or it is unclear which button made the lights start flashing, then your child is not learning which of his actions (the cause) produced the lights and music (the effect). In short, the most useful toys are those that require the most action on the part of a young child. The more children have to use their minds and bodies to make something work, the more they learn.
