Building blocks are popular toddler toys that provide an early lesson in the laws of physics. Your kids can learn about gravity, cause and effect, and the importance of a stable foundation without even realizing it. Blocks are a smart buy for young ones since kids typically maintain interest even as they get older. Start with a set of wooden blocks or big plastic ones that interlock. Both are a good size for toddlers who are still mastering fine motor skills.

Babies get so cold during their first year of baths. And while there’s nothing cuter than a baby fresh from a bath squirming in a big fluffy towel, baby being unnecessarily chilly for the sake of cuteness just doesn’t settle with us. If you want to keep your baby warm as you dry and dress him, this hooded towel is a great option. It will keep baby’s head warm while dressing the rest of him until you can dry and brush hair or get a hat on him.

Each level is a puzzle area where players must locate all the gold stars. Players will have to spin the camera around to search the world’s nooks and crannies for secrets. It’s a relaxing and fun experience that offers something different than Mario. This little puzzle game is perfectly suited for the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo 3DS.

Toy shopping is serious business. Toys that are too easy will bore your babe. Those that are too advanced will aggravate him. But pick one that's just right for his skill level, and you'll be giving him hours of education, exploration, and enjoyment "Toys are an investment in a child's development," says Marianne Szymanski, founder and president of Toy Tips, Inc. and co-author of Toy Tips: A Parent's Essential Guide to Smart Toy Choices. Ready to shop? We've compiled a list of age-appropriate toys -- as well as ones to avoid -- for each developmental level.

Especially suitable for kids who are experiencing or otherwise coming into contact with the healthcare system, doctor’s kits are also just plain fun. They encourage a range of imaginative play that can help a child enact the role of caregiver. The Battat B. Deluxe Doctor’s Kit for Toddlers, which we dig, includes a sturdy carrier kit and is almost scarily thorough. With nine pieces such as a stethoscope with heartbeat sound, an otoscope, a blood pressure cuff with gauge, a safe syringe, (kid) scissors, a thermometer, and a beeper. A beeper!

Welp, Christmas is just around the corner (hooray?) and your kids are already asking for everything under the sun, so we’ve narrowed down their toy demands to the ones that are the most popular and must-haves of the 2018 season.  Why not stay on-trend and ahead of the curve all at the same time? Plus, if you’re running out of ideas on what toys to gift them this season (just in case you’re totally over giving them all kinds of candy), their birthday (geesh didn’t they just have one of those?!) or just want to pick them up a little something for no reason at all, we’ve got you covered.
These dissolve so quickly that they’re the least scary solid food you can give your baby. If you don’t believe us, try them yourself; you’ll be surprised how quickly this goes from looking like a choking hazard to completely melted in your mouth without the use of your teeth at all. The taste isn’t so great (for us, but for a baby that’s just experiencing all tastes for the first time, it’s wonderful), but after you and baby are more comfortable with them, you can give them to baby without worrying if she’s going to choke. And handing them to a screaming baby is just another quick fix we like to have in our parenting arsenal.
At this point, baby is busy coordinating his emerging senses (such as sight and touch) and motor skills (such as rolling and grasping). He’ll begin to press up during tummy time, first through his forearms and then through straight arms—all of which is preparation for sitting up and (eventually) crawling. With their eyesight getting stronger, babies become especially interested in faces and other circular designs, like spirals and bullseyes. Babies at 4 and 5 months are also starting to learn cause and effect, so he may start to shake noisy toys (think: rattles) and bring them to his mouth.
He may be cute but beware when Jack-Jack attacks! This poseable baby doll lights up to signify the character’s polymorph abilities. This interactive doll laughs, giggles, babbles, cries, shouts, and makes electric sparking sounds when you press its tummy. Kids can explore his different abilities ranging from laser eyes to electric sparks and more. The doll also comes with a cute raccoon figure so kids can recreate their favorite scenes from the movie. But the coolest part? Play with him long enough and his face really turns to a fiery red. Better not mess with Jack-Jack when he’s in that state.
It’s all about the interactive toys this year.  Introducing ‘Lil Gleemerz!’  There are currently three different ones to choose from and they have over 100 different reactions and interactions like purring, growling, farting (of course), light shows, light up tail, and so much more.  Oh, and did we mention they can say funny things, their eyes glow, and you can simply press their nose to enjoy them three different ways (game mode, light party, or hangout).  They’ve already been named one of the top toys of the year, so get ’em while you can!  See all the different color options here!

There’s a reason why the Little Tikes Shopping Cart has been a favorite toddler toy for generations. This is one toy that boys and girls will use for hours, engaging in imaginative role play as they fill the cart just like mom and dad do at the store. The Little Tikes Cart stands at two feet tall and is made from durable, BPA-, latex-, PVC- and phthalate-free plastic. The easy-push wheels are designed to protect indoor surfaces, yet they’re durable enough for outdoor use. If there is probable cause that a toddler could have a developmental delay or developmental disability, a trained, certified specialist can give a proper evaluation (in some cases, more than one) to get a good idea of what could possibly be wrong. This can help direct the parent to proper organizations, services and support groups that can help to educate and function through this experience.

Shadows In The Forest is a surprisingly refreshing and clever game. You play the game in the dark and light and shadows are a core part of the game. One player is the lantern, a pursuer represented by a small LED lantern. Other players are the Shadowlings, who crave darkness. The Shadowlings have to gather under the tree, while the lantern has to freeze Shadowlings in its light. The catch? Shadowlings can’t cross light beams projected by the Lantern. It’s the perfect game for sleepovers and requires chess-like strategy and cooperative play.
This may be a bit on the religious side, but you know your friends. And if the gift is for your baby, you know you! The wooden figurines will allow baby to identify animals and, if you work with her, animal sounds, too. And there are so many nursery themes of Noah’s Ark that you may find this is the perfect gift to accompany nursery rhyme time. We just couldn’t miss putting this on our list.

There’s just so much to do and discover that kids will love it. It comes with a walk-in shower, loft bedroom, kitchen with hideaway table and more. There you have it. Blocks, balls, and cups -- unsung superheroes of the toy world. So what's their secret? Some experts believe that convergent playthings (with only one purpose, such as puzzles) encourage children to seek out the one correct answer while divergent playthings (with more than one purpose) guide children to many approaches, helping them understand that some problems have many solutions. That must be why kids go back to these toys again and again. They'll never be the must-have toys of the moment, but they won't be forgotten tomorrow either.

Simply stick the suction cup to any flat surface and watch your child become mesmerized by the spinning wheel. The centerpiece spinners enhance visual tracking and strengthen fine motor wheels, while also encouraging your baby to reach, tug, and bat, which helps develop hand-eye coordination. The colorful beads within the clear structure of the toy also help baby connect the idea of sound to sight. Multiple texture points are optimal for baby’s developed play, as well. This toy is recommended for kids six months and up.
This adorable pay mat and ball pit is unbelievably packed with activities for your little one to enjoy for hours. Used as a play mat for play or sleeping, the hanging toys can be used separately or linked together. This will develop baby’s motor and cognitive skills. The arch can be removed as baby grows older and just wants to play with the ball pit.

3. Promote interaction and language : Some toys are more supportive of playing with  and talking to your baby than others. A book that reads itself to your toddler as she turns pages or pushes buttons leaves little room for a parent to interact. A spider toy that sings the whole "Itsy Bitsy Spider" song doesn't promote imitation of hand motions as mommy or daddy sings it to baby. Look for toys that do less for the child and that allow the space for you as a parent to ask questions, tell a story, sing a song, make an animal noise,  and make observations.

Soft and cuddly, this well-made stuffed lamb is perfect for one of baby’s first companion friends. Light enough for baby to handle and carry along, it is the perfect size for newborns and infants. A great sensory toy because of the soft fur to feel and explore, plus the rattle inside will help baby’s listening skills. Easy to clean because it is machine washable.

Your toddler is getting good at figuring out how objects in her world work—like television remotes or light switches. She is also interested in playing with your “real” stuff, like your cell phone, because she is eager to be big and capable like you. Toys like this help children problem-solve, learn spatial relations (how things fit together), and develop fine motor skills (use of the small muscles in the hands and fingers).
The WubbaNub pacifier is made from a medical-grade, latex pacifier with one-piece construction to reduce the likelihood of germs hiding out in cracks and crevices. Premium-grade silicone, i.e., 100 percent medical- or food-grade silicone is particularly important for water-filled teethers since these are meant to be extra-soft for very young, sensitive gums. However, water can leak from the unit if the material doesn’t hold up time and time again. That’s why we made sure to only select teething toys made from the highest-grade materials. The combination of premium materials and sound manufacturing techniques is the key to making safe, effective products for all your baby’s teething needs.

It includes an elephant clacker, a hippo teether, and 3 other fun animal characters.
A: Babies drool, this is unavoidable. If you find with these toys, your baby is drooling more excessively than before, it’s because the extra stimulation causes more salivation. Keeping a burp rag or extra cloth on hand will help you with the clean-up. Consider also switching toys out regularly as this can help minimize drooling. Differing textures will provide stimulation to different areas of the mouth and gums, helping to break the amount of occurring salivation.

Why we love it: Sophie's design has remained unchanged since 1961 and that's simply because you don't mess with a toy that’s entranced babies for generations – and soothed their sore gums (it’s won Gold in our Best Teething Toy category this year). Our tester's mum says that, even though her baby Elliott is ever so young at 3 months, he found Sophie quite easy to hold. 'Sophie's good points are her squeak,' she says, 'and the contrasting colour of her spots that makes her fascinating to look at.'
Here’s a nice surprise! With the Equestria Collection, it’s the first time fans can collect all of their favorite friends in one package. Babies always need these. They get lost or used, and you can just simply never have enough. Link them together when baby is first grasping things and put them directly in her hand so she can feel the sensation of grabbing something; let her pull on them from her activity mat mobile. When she starts moving her hands more, she can shake them as a rattle. You can even use them as a chain to connect a sippy cup or pacifier to the stroller or car seat to prevent loss.
At 12 months, children are learning about patterns in the world, which also extends to routines. Predictable routines, like ones at nighttime, for example, “both help them feel very safe and secure, but also help them learn about the world and learn what to expect next,” says Lytle. This feeling of security also applies to loveys, because at this age, children are capable of forming some type of relationship with nonhumans, even characters on a favorite show. A familiar doll or toy can add an element of predictability in a situation that may be foreign. “Objects and dolls can’t respond to the child, but it is something that makes them feel secure,” she adds. Even if they don’t know what is going on around them, they will feel safe knowing that they have their favorite toy in their arms. Try this fox Sshlumpie, which is not only a cuddly companion for a 1-year-old but also a great lovey that can be taken on the go — and to sleep.
