There’s also a cute magical unicorn one too!
Take even a cursory glance at the regularly updated reports from the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission and you'll see toy recalls occurring at least on a monthly basis, and sometimes weekly. The CSPC notes for example a building playlet that posed a choking hazard despite being designed by a manufacturer reputed for safe toys. The agency tracked baby costumes recalled due to strangulation hazards. And they alerted consumers of a child's toy recalled due to the risk of it catching fire. All of these recalls occurred in a three month period -- as did dozens more.

One of the more interesting and creative sets we discovered at the Magformers showroom was the upcoming Magformers Sky Track Adventure Set. Magformers is the leader in magnetic construction toys, which are perfect for introducing children to STEM concepts like math and engineering as well as developing spatial reasoning, critical thinking and creativity skills. What’s cool is that the Sky Track Adventure set allows kids to build several cool configurations and race a battery-powered rocket along the track.
The WubbaNub pacifier is made from a medical-grade, latex pacifier with one-piece construction to reduce the likelihood of germs hiding out in cracks and crevices. This is a great puzzle for baby to strengthen his fine motor skills and problem solving abilities. We love how it immediately rewards the baby with visual evidence that he’s achieved his goal by physically swinging the door wide, and while baby will still be a little young for the numbers on the front, their presence alone will act as a tool to familiarize him with them. Beware this one’s age recommendations; it says 3 and up, but we’ve had a lot of experience with under-1-year-olds loving it, too.
Hot Wheels is known for its physical play, but now it is blending the physical and virtual world with Augmoto. Augmoto adds AR on top of a classic Hot Wheels race track. In order to race your opponent around the track, players have to complete mini games using an app. For example, players can earn missile attacks, which can be used to slow down your opponent. The AR component adds a strategic element to the classic Hot Wheels track, making it feel more like a video game.

This toddler toy gets played with at our house every single day. Because of the cylinder shape, it is an activity that parents should participate in as little ones will get frustrated if it keeps rolling away while they are trying to put the shape in the correct spot. I actually consider this to be a positive aspect of this toy, as it gives me the opportunity to talk about the various shapes and colors. I debated between this one and the Melissa & Doug Shape Sorting cube, but decided against the cube after reading many negative reviews.
It’s time for another tried and true baby gift -- Maracas! The Marvel Black Panther Vibranium Power FX Role Play Mask allows kids to become the embodiment of the Black Panther. You’ll feel like you’ve been instantly and magically transported to the kingdom of Wakanda as the king ready to rightfully take your throne. But you can even flip down the lens for another cool way to see the world.

The LEGO Ideas Ship In A Bottle is a very classy looking set. Although it seems a bit smaller than expected, it’s actually 1:1 scale to many ships in a bottle. From a distance it looks quite realistic and what’s great is that it doesn’t occupy too much space. The cap and cork is exquisitely designed and great to look at. As for the ship, it features a nice build. It’s surprisingly sturdy and dense considering its size. Decide whether you want the boat inside or outside of the bottle beforehand, as it’s not so easy to remove once it’s inside the bottle.
It’s best not to underestimate your baby’s strength, even at just a few months old. Early teethers may have fragile gums, but they can still gnaw through weak, poorly made toys. We want to assure you that we’ve chosen teethers with proven durability, thanks to innovative construction methods and durable materials. Solid constructions can come from numerous processes, such as individual knotting for beads, one-piece construction for loops and beads, or the usage of premium-grade silicone.

When my kids play with stacking cups, I like to think of it as good practice for emptying the dishwasher, but they're actually stockpiling math and science skills. Sometime between his first and second birthday, he'll be able to place the cups on top of one another. He's usually not stacking them in any order, but he's starting to understand size relationships. Don't pressure him to do it the "right" way. As he gets older, he'll realize, If I put the small cup inside the big one, the medium one won't fit. He's starting to understand seriation -- a fancy word for putting things in their proper order.

This includes a sturdy wood block puzzle, but if we had to pin down a theme for this set it would definitely be “banging.” Between the xylophone and the pound-a-ball, the child has plenty of appropriate ways to fine-tune that “bam-bam” skill. The xylophone is always a great toy for a kid because of this, and the pound-a-ball actually allows the child to see the physical change to the toy by dropping the ball into the pit below.
The book has a page for each of the first 12 months, then one page per year through the age of 5. One parent pointed out that the fill-in-the-blank spaces make it easy for even less creative individuals to make a meaningful and beautiful baby book. However, it has been noted that this book is more suited to traditional family types and often prompts photos or information about parents and grandparents that suggests that these couples are still together. Some parents may find this to be a little uncomfortable at times. Overall, though, this is a beautiful and simple to use memory book that will keep track of baby’s special moments and accomplishments for years to come!
Most times when you’re buying a gift for baby, you’re actually buying a gift for the new mom and dad that will be pleased and baby will like (or at least benefit from). And that makes gift giving a bit more tricky. Even if you don’t get something from our list, though, do the parent a favor and adhere to the recommended age of any toy you get, especially if that parent is you. Storing a gift for years is no fun.
As you keep up with tummy time, you'll see baby holding his head higher and steadier. By the end of month three, he may be able to raise his shoulders and upper chest. He'll probably roll a few times accidentally if he turns his head too far, but before long he'll doing it intentionally. (Want to get some rolling practice in? Place baby in a side-lying position.) You may also notice baby kicking a bunch while lying on his back, which helps strengthen the belly muscles needed to eventually roll over. Another fun development? Baby may start to intentionally reach for and grasp toys—but knowing how to let go of objects hasn’t set in yet. Keep in mind that babies at this stage are relying on their senses (sight, hearing, touch and smell) to navigate around the new world around them, so offer up some healthy stimulation.

Like other FurReal pets, Rock-a-Too responds to sound, light, and touch with different reactions to delight children. He has a fun personality that will likely appeal to kids.
Exciting toddlers about the notion of brushing their teeth can be quite challenging. As they are still adjusting to the idea of a foreign object in their mouths; this can cause new or uncomfortable sensations that may, for example, activate their gag reflex. The banana-shaped teething toy provides a dual purpose in helping your baby get through these critical and uncomfortable milestones. It serves as a toothbrush meant to help your little one develop good habits for a healthy mouth while simultaneously providing your baby with a soft massaging effect to soothe sore gums and help teeth to break through. The gentle silicone bristles are made of 100% food grade materials that have been FDA approved and is also free of BPA, Latex, and other harsh substances.
Water play adds another splash of science. As John Cerio, PhD, a professor of school psychology at Alfred University, in Alfred, New York, points out, kids are capable of learning a difficult concept on a very basic level. If you pour water from one container into a different-shaped container, you still have the same amount of water. Without hands-on play, most kids would tell you that the taller container must hold more.
In order to know how to help ease our children’s pain, we first must understand the process in which their body is changing and developing. Although few remember, teething is a process we all have experienced. It can be painful and cause other disruptive symptoms such as loss of appetite and fever. This first set of teeth, also known as milk teeth, play an essential role in the development of our children’s mouths, smiles, and speech. These teeth start popping through on average around 6 months. They can, however, appear as early as 3 months or as late as 1 year of age. These teeth have two major roles: the first is to mark and prep the eruption areas for permanent teeth to make way. The second is to maintain the arch length, to ensure healthy speech development.

Next look for toys that are free of potentially harmful materials such as lead, BPA, phthalates, and other dangerous chemicals and compounds. Reading all labels and literature that accompany a toy should be enough to figure out whether or not the toy meets your standards, and be on the lookout for words like "organic" and "nontoxic." Also check the place of manufacture of a product and be aware of inexpensive imports, which may not be entirely trustworthy in their labeling.
"It's a myth that babies can't play, even if they don't seem to be 'doing much' yet—they’re still taking everything in,” says Amanda Gummer, a research psychologist specializing in child development and spokesperson for the Genius of Play, a movement to raise awareness about the importance of play in kids’ lives. “Playing is a great way for parents and caregivers to build that vital bond with their baby, while sensory stimulations helps baby's brain grow.”
A soft, cuddly giraffe that glows and play soft music just cannot be beat for an infant to cling to for bedtime and naptime. If there is probable cause that a toddler could have a developmental delay or developmental disability, a trained, certified specialist can give a proper evaluation (in some cases, more than one) to get a good idea of what could possibly be wrong. This can help direct the parent to proper organizations, services and support groups that can help to educate and function through this experience.

Even at the most infantile age, babies need to hear sounds and music to use and strengthen their hearing skills. The toys listed here that do make sounds or music, do so in a very gentle way that will not frighten or alarm the baby. They are introductory noises and music that soothes the baby into sleep or nap time easily. Not all toys must make sounds, but those that do must encourage the baby to listen and be something that it enjoys hearing. All of these toys do that very nicely.
