A: There is so much controversy around the use of plastic these days. In recent years, we’ve seen how its chemical make-up has had some undesirable effects on our health, not to mention our planet. We highly recommend using silicone-based toys as they are FDA-approved, better for the environment and may be safer and less harsh for your baby’s delicate, growing body.

Children can learn to explore the world through a number of toys — or just through simple household items like pots and pans. For parents and caregivers, the important thing is to facilitate this experimentation. Says Lytle: “You really want parents to be there playing with their children, following their lead, allowing them to figure out what happens, and asking them questions about it like, ‘Oh my gosh, did you see that? Did you see what happened? Do you think that would happen if we did it again?’ If you think about it, asking those questions get at the scientific method.” No wonder this award-winning toy is beloved by parents and children everywhere. In addition to being a musical instrument, it allows kids to experiment with cause and effect.

By now you've probably had it drilled into your head that whole or real foods - usually from the perimeter of the grocery store - are healthier for your family than processed, refined foods from a box. But grocery shopping can be confusing because many of those processed food boxes (filled with easy, convenient food for busy families) claim to be "natural", "organic", "whole grain" and more.
They’re going to love playing ‘parent’ with this new interactive doll!  They can feed her, change her, love her and more!  She’ll give them over 80 super real expressions and cute little sounds. Who isn’t obsessed with Unicorns? Started on Kickstarter, Unstable Unicorns is a card game that raised an ungodly amount of money. In Unstable Unicorns, you must build a unicorn army. The player that is the first to collect seven unicorns in their hand is the winner, but thanks to the “Neigh” cards there are numerous obstacles in your way. It’s much a game of strategy as it is a game of betrayal. Add rainbows and a little sparkle to your game night.
Shadows In The Forest is a surprisingly refreshing and clever game. You play the game in the dark and light and shadows are a core part of the game. One player is the lantern, a pursuer represented by a small LED lantern. Other players are the Shadowlings, who crave darkness. The Shadowlings have to gather under the tree, while the lantern has to freeze Shadowlings in its light. The catch? Shadowlings can’t cross light beams projected by the Lantern. It’s the perfect game for sleepovers and requires chess-like strategy and cooperative play.

During your child’s third year, his creativity is really taking off as he is now able to take on the role of someone else (like a king) and imagine that something (like a block) is actually something else (like a piece of cake). Look for toys that your child can use as he develops and acts out stories. Pretend play builds language and literacy skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to sequence (put events in a logical order).

Laser tag is great because you don’t have to worry about ammo, breaking anything, or somebody getting hurt. You can run around outside or even inside on Christmas day. It’s definitely more fun with more people. With a range of up to 300 feet, the blasters feature cool lights, sounds, and even immersive sensations to make you feel the action. Some research suggests simply some TLC as a form of relief to trade off extensive use of teethers. Simply holding your child, speaking to them, rocking them when fussy, or the gentle pressure of your finger in their mouth and on their gums can be more than enough in conjunction with the teething toys. By far it will make this first transition much simpler and smoother.
Stardew Valley delivers comfort rarely found in other games. Players will farm, fish, craft, mine, fight monsters, make friendships, and more. This farming adventure has plenty to offer. It beautifully combines farm simulation with RPG elements to create an intriguing, absorbing world. It’s an old-fashioned jack-in-the-box, except instead of a creepy clown, it’s an adorable Curious George! It also happens to play “Pop Goes the Weasel.” “This deals with the concept of object permanence, meaning that even though you can’t see the toy that’s in the box, it still exists,” says Lytle. “Kids start picking up on this idea when they’re 1, and they continue learning it throughout childhood. Toys that surprise children are interesting because they appeal to a 1-year-old’s understanding of routine and patterns, and they’re always fun and playful. But if you have a child that will have a very strong, scared reaction, this is perhaps not the best toy for them.”

Scribble and Write includes an attached stylus designed for little hands, and the screen lights up to help kids trace both uppercase and lowercase letters, as well as numbers. Kids will start out on Level 1, where scribbling is encouraged as they get used to holding the pencil, and then they’ll slowly progress to Level 2, where the goal is letter accuracy.

Proceed with caution. Most products that make these claims have not been proven to increase children’s intelligence. In fact, safe household items (plastic bowls for filling and dumping, pillows for climbing and piling up to make a cave, old clothing for dress-up) are often the best learning tools. Remember, the more your child has to use her mind and body to problem solve and develop her own ideas, the more she learns.
Crib mobiles have been entertaining babies for decades. Attach a mobile to the side of a crib and baby will be amused watching the toys spin around above them as they lie on their back. For babies who are learning to fall asleep, the mobile is detachable. The sound unit plays songs, lullabies, reggae music and offers white noise to help baby sleep.
We encourage parents to do their own extensive research since many teething toys out there do still contain some trace levels of BPA. Even some of the cooling gels and agents used on some products to aid in relief may leak after extensive use or improper treatment. It can be a lengthy process, but your child’s health is always worth it. Also, as part of our evaluation and suggestion to parents, don’t look for a quick and easy–or cheap–fixes! The more you do this, the more likely you are to get a product with toxins, or a product that peels and is a choking hazard. Even something like food- and medical-grade silicone can be deceptive.

In order to know how to help ease our children’s pain, we first must understand the process in which their body is changing and developing. Although few remember, teething is a process we all have experienced. It can be painful and cause other disruptive symptoms such as loss of appetite and fever. This first set of teeth, also known as milk teeth, play an essential role in the development of our children’s mouths, smiles, and speech. These teeth start popping through on average around 6 months. They can, however, appear as early as 3 months or as late as 1 year of age. These teeth have two major roles: the first is to mark and prep the eruption areas for permanent teeth to make way. The second is to maintain the arch length, to ensure healthy speech development.
Most times when you’re buying a gift for baby, you’re actually buying a gift for the new mom and dad that will be pleased and baby will like (or at least benefit from). And that makes gift giving a bit more tricky. Even if you don’t get something from our list, though, do the parent a favor and adhere to the recommended age of any toy you get, especially if that parent is you. Storing a gift for years is no fun.
What’s harder than playing Jenga? Playing Jenga without a table. Jenga Pass Challenge moves Jenga off the table for a new twist.
